    Educational Philosophy

The purpose of education is to teach children how to educate themselves.  As a veteran teacher at the elementary level, my priority has always been built on a foundation of inquiry.  Though as educators, we are tasked with aligning our instruction with state and district standards, the most effective teachers are those who use the content to impart upon students a desire to know more!  What greater gift can a child leave the classroom with than deep-rooted curiosity about the world and their place within it.  As I prepare my lessons each day, I maintain focus on that... my ultimate goal as a teacher and lover of learning.  Children must see mistakes as opportunities to learn, perhaps about a specific topic but more importantly, to learn about themselves and their relationships with others.  The heart of this discovery lies in the fundamental understanding that all questions are valid and necessary to move ourselves and our world forward.  As an educational leader, it is my greatest responsibility to lead others toward common objectives by learning from them and with them.  In my role as a school administrator, I will make it my utmost priority to facilitate opportunities for on-going growth and learning for all.

I am currently teaching fourth grade in Virginia.  Over the course of my career, the educational landscape has changed dramatically.  As a passionate educator, I am focused on supporting students and those who work with them.  I strive to encourage those I serve by empowering them to unlock their unique potential by capitalizing on their strengths!  As a servant leader, my priorities center on student success, supporting the professionals who embody the vision, mission, and goals set forth by, and for, our learning community.

    90 Day Entry Plan

This entry plan provides the incoming administrator with a specific process that will facilitate the transition into a new school or role.  It also creates a transparent framework for stakeholders as they learn about the school leader's priorities and initiatives to engage with students, staff, and families.  The plan begins with a series of listening and learning activities that will assist the new principal in deepening their understanding of school culture, operations, goals, and needs.
