Research shows that student outcomes are greatly improved when schools partner with families and community members. Here are my procedures for impacting family and community engagement:
Relationships:
- Foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and collegiality among staff
- Promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for students, families, and the community
- Facilitate opportunities for families to engage with the school
- Develop rapport with families and the community by being present and visible
- Remain mindful of barriers that may exist and work to address them
Communication:
- Prioritize morale among faculty and staff
- Recognize faculty, staff, and students through routine systems
- Engage in conversations with staff, students, and families to improve climate, culture, and outcomes
- Ensure all stakeholders can easily access information through various platforms
- Leverage social media outlets to promote school engagement
- Provide frequent communication relevant to the school and those we serve
Clear Expectations:
- Clearly communicate vision, values, and expectations by modeling and embedding via all school platforms
- Maintain consistency relative to expectations and discipline
Technology that Supports Learning:
- Make tools available such as Schoology, Google Apps, online platforms, video conferencing, and high-impact learning sites to support student achievement
- Ensure equitable student access to technology outside of the classroom
